A football club is inviting local businesses to stake a chance on becoming kit sponsors.
United Glasgow FC is running a ‘sponsorship lottery’ to raise badly-needed funds.
The club was originally set up for refugees, asylum seekers and other groups on low incomes.
It wants new training kit to reinforce the ethos of everyone united regardless of background and means.
For £50, companies can enter a draw – with three winners getting their names emblazoned on the team’s new training kit.
Everyone else who donates will be listed as an official sponsor on United Glasgow FC’s website.
Alan White is the club’s chairperson.
He said: “Running a club that welcomes everyone has its challenges.
“We can’t ask all of our players to contribute towards things like training kits so we are reliant on generous local businesses or individuals to help out.
“Hopefully the sponsorship lottery will allow people to get involved and support United Glasgow without having to contribute hundreds of pounds.”
Since 2011, United Glasgow FC has welcomed players from over 50 countries at its base at the Firhill Complex, in Woodside.
While the project was formed to help primarily refugees and asylum seekers, it now has players from all backgrounds and all walks of life.
All genders, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, socio-economic position and immigration status are involved.
The club was recently awarded the Best Community For All Football Project 2017 by the Scottish Football Association West Region.
It wants new sponsors to help pay for training kits for each of their teams.
These kits cost around £500 for each team.
Under the sponsorship lottery, 30 individuals, groups and companies will be offered the chance to enter.
As a charity, donations to United Glasgow Football Club by businesses can be claimed back against corporation tax.
Once they have 30 names and confirmed donations, the draw will take place.
If you are interested in taking part in the sponsorship lottery, please email firstname.lastname@example.org before August 31.
If there are any businesses who are interested in guaranteeing their place on a United Glasgow FC team’s training kit for £500, you can contact them directly.
