LIVE: Major fire devastates Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh Building again

By Ian Marland at
Glasgow city centre is in lockdown as emergency services tackle a huge fire at the Glasgow School of Art.

Social media footage shows devastating flames leaping from the Mackintosh Building.

Dozens of firefighters are at the scene.

Roads in and around Garnethill and Sauchiehall Street have been closed to traffic.

The fire started at around 11pm. Nearby buildings have been evacuated in the face of the intensity of the fire.

There are no reports of casualties.

Other buildings such as the O2 ABC venue were said by eyewitnesses to be at risk.

It is only four years since the building was razed by a fire. A major renovation project has been under way and was due to be completed next year.
