Oso Spanish is bringing back its hugely successful summer camp next month, after their first summer of events in 2017 proved a hit with Glasgow kids and parents alike.

Operating in the heart of the West End last year, Oso Spanish is now expanding to include the south side after local families there began to request dedicated camps there for children in the area.

Success: the summer camp is in its second year

The summer camps will run from July 2-6 and July 9-13 in 121st Scout Hall in Clarkston, with two further camps in Balshagray Victoria Park Church Hall in Broomhill from July 16-20 and July 23-27, offering full immersion learning combined with lots of summer fun.

Each day of the camp has its own theme, with activities specially designed by Oso founder Rose McGinty – supported by native Spanish teachers who will help the children learn through songs and games, arts and crafts, zumba and storytelling in an active week of Spanish fun.

Rose was inspired to offer a new way of teaching children Spanish following two years living in Gijon and working with children there – both teaching in a local school and through children’s clubs in the city.

Rose, a qualified primary teacher, said: “When we launched Oso Spanish we knew we were offering something different which we were really confident children would enjoy.

“Looking back on last year now, though, we can see just how much our ositos gained from their week learning Spanish in a fun and exciting environment.

Poster: dates and places for the camp

“Learning a language in an academic context is a really important skill which can offer young people opportunities to travel and explore the world, but at Oso Spanish we are committed to giving children their first exposure to a new language in a relaxed and enjoyable way – letting them absorb Spanish language and culture while having a really fun week.

“Places are going fast, so we’d encourage local parents to get in while they can to make sure their children don’t miss out on everything we have planned for this year’s camps!”
